Pilates Reformer Program

Pilates is a fitness conditioning method named after the man (Joseph H. Pilates) that formulated the principles behind this form of exercise.

Joseph Pilates developed exercises focused on strengthening what he called the "powerhouse" of the body. Today we refer to the "core" of the body as the center of movement and stability. Training the "core" muscles of the body can be tedious and boring so the challenge comes in making the training a fun and organized process.  We make it easy because we do that for you.

Pilates is a diverse exercise program that is fun and challenging to all levels. It can be designed to maximize an athlete's potential or to rehab an injury. It is a process of developing strength, flexibility and coordination all of which work together to improve movement efficiency and prevent injury.

Pilates exercise focuses on:

Instead of isolating muscle groups, the whole body is trained integrating the upper and lower extremities with the trunk. The roots of Pilates based exercises are in efficient function of the musculoskeletal system. This function requires a balance of muscle length and strength not only in the limbs but in the trunk which is the physical center of the body referred to as the "core."  Today we refer to the "core" of the body as the center of movement and stability.

ABOUT THE SESSION FORMAT

The session format allows us to progress each class in a more efficient manner. Instructors are given a chance to get to know the students in the class and lead them through a series of exercises specifically geared for them. It benefits those committed to taking Pilates with the intention of creating a more consistent program.

The fee of the Pilates classes is necessary in order to continue to offer a quality program with quality equipment and well-trained instructors. The fees reflects the need to continually update equipment, hire and train more instructors and add more classes.

To be able to take group reformer classes at a rate of $6 per class is unheard of across the nation. Typically, people pay $25-$50 per reformer class.  Our Rec Center Pilates participants are still getting a low-cost rate that is consistent with all the other pay for services at the Rec Center, such as personal training, babysitting and membership dues.

We appreciate all of your dedication to our Pilates Program. Your continued support has allowed us to bring you one of the biggest and best Pilates reformer programs in the Midwest.  You should be proud!

Thank you,
Bonnie Benesh, Pilates Coordinator
